"I'll Have a Long Beard by the Time I Read Them"

I know, I know.  I won’t really have a long beard, but I love the saying for my library area!
I’ve been looking for some sort of saying for my library for a long time and saw this one the other day.  It makes me think of when I was a child…reading books…and oh how my imagination worked!  I’d travel all over the world through the books that I read!  I’venever always had an over worked imagination mind you!
Once again I can’t remember where I saw this saying…I’m sorry!  I’m trying to remember to keep track of where I see things and get my ideas from! :) Any how, I wrote it down right away and put it at the top of my list of projects to do.
I had some left over good one side plywood (in my pile of goods from my house renovations) and thought I could make a plank style wall hanging with it.  I laid the planks out face down and lined them up how I wanted them.  I cut two narrow strips of fur and attached them to the planks using wood glue and screws.  I sanded everything really well and let it sit a bit.  I’m quite an impatient person when it comes to projects like this so it probably didn’t sit as long as it could have.  But it all held together. :)
I painted the top with white crafters paint.  I didn’t feel like waiting the length of time I’d need to if I would’ve used regular paint.  I painted the edges using the colour Antique Gold from Apple Barrel Colors.  This is the color which I used for the rest of the wall hanging later on.

I will tell you that this whole process took a few days as I only worked on it an hour a night or so after work.  I cut the vinyl (The font I used is called BoyzRGross.  I don’t know where people ever come up with some of these names.) using my trusty Cameo and applied it to the sign.  Here you can see a grey patch of paint which I painted using the colour Concrete Grey by Deco Art.
Once the grey paint was dry I put on the first layer of vinyl for the cover of the books.  It’ll all make sense yet, trust me!  Then I painted over the entire wall hanging with the Antique Gold.  I did about 4 coats or so.  It was usually late at night when I worked on this so do whatever works for you. :)
Once the paint was all dry I removed all the vinyl.  Here you can see the grey books.
I used the vinyl for a stencil to paint the inside of the books, which I did using white paint.
I let everything dry really well while I was at work and then sanded the whole thing down with my power sander.  Some of the letters kind of chipped away, but I did want the wall hanging to look old and tattered, if wood can look tattered…
I sealed the paint with a clear spray lacquer.
This shows the finished wall hanging from the side.  I hung it up with wire attached to the back with screws.  I didn’t get any proper pictures of the back…trust me, it looks very much liked I DIY’d the project! :)
This is how it looks…I can’t believe it’s actually finished.  I’ve been living in my house for 2 years now and have wanted something put up in my library ever since I moved in!

Now I need to get the rest of my library area finished…the bookshelves are finally in and now trim is the next thing on my list.  But that might be a while yet…
Happy Monday to you all!
