Well I wrote this post a few years ago and it disappeared on me.
Anyways, I decided to try to write this post and share it with you again.
I don’t know how many of you use the Silhouette Cameo or Silhouette SD. I’ve had my Cameo for a number of years now and love it! There’s been a real learning process and some of it has been rather painful.
I’d like to share a few tips and tricks I’ve learned when it comes to cutting vinyl.
I use Oracal Vinyl 631 for all my vinyl wall art. This vinyl is meant for indoor use only. Oracal has another line if you’re looking for vinyl which is meant for the great outdoors.
Silhouette America came out with a Roll Feeder a while back and this is the answer to all your problems when it comes to cutting vinyl.
I did a custom order a number of years ago which prompted this post in the first place.
It was an order for a baby room and it was my first large order. Trees which would reach from the floor to the ceiling with branches to add on and a few yellow birds. I wasted a lot of vinyl on this order which is why I wanted to share this with you.
The Silhouette Studio has standard settings for cutting vinyl. It used to be that the speed was set for around 8 and the thickness was 9. I learned with cutting longer lengths at a time that the machine had a hard time keeping the vinyl from shifting and moving around. I played around with my settings and found that keeping the speed at 2 and the thickness between 8 and 9 worked the best for me.
Now that I have the Roll Feeder I no longer have these problems. I am able to cut the vinyl at a much higher speed without the vinyl slipping around and messing the cutting job up.
It’s also important to remember to cut registration marks with your wall art if you’re doing a saying or image which involves more than one sheet of vinyl. You can make your own registration marks using circles, triangles, squares or whatever suits your fancy. Just line them up before you move the saying to cut and then you’ll have these little vinyl pieces to match up later when you’re placing it on a wall or other surface.
I love the 'toilette' sign i bought. It seems like a very good quality, heavy iron and beautiful! I got one for myself and another for giving away. And wonderful quick service, it was ready for pickup in a jiffy.
